Since 2006, the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) and the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC), with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, have partnered to recognize the outstanding community-university engagement scholarship work of four-year public universities with a two-tiered award process.
该 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award and the C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award recognize colleges and universities that have redesigned their learning, discovery and engagement missions to become even more involved with their communities.

Each regional winner of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award competes for the C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award, which is given at the APLU Annual Meeting. The recipient of the Magrath Award receives an award sculpture and a cash prize of $20,000. 该 three recipients of the Kellogg Award that are not selected to receive the Magrath Award each receive a cash prize of $5,000.
To apply for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award, please submit an electronic document (750 words or less) summarizing the engagement partnership to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2020. 该 summary should include:
- An overview of the outreach and engagement partnership;
- 该 scope of the partners involved and the reciprocity of the relationships between the university and community partners;
- Specific impacts that the outreach and engagement partnership has had on the community;
- Specific impacts that the outreach and engagement partnership has had on the university (including students, utilizing expertise of multiple faculty/disciplines, engaged research);
- 该 integration of scholarship and learning; and
- 该 evolution, duration, and sustainability of the engagement work.
A committee administered by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach will select one nominee to represent UGA for the Southern Region competition. 该 chosen nominee will be asked to complete a full application packet by early March, 2020 in order to meet APLU’s entry deadline in April, 2020.
